About Morse Code

Morse code is a method used in telecommunication to encode text characters as standardized sequences of two different signal durations, called dots and dashes, or marks and spaces. It was developed by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail in the 1830s and 1840s.

  • A dot (.) is a short signal, while a dash (-) is a longer one.
  • Each letter or numeral is represented by a unique sequence of dots and dashes.
  • Words are separated by spaces or slashes (/).
  • Morse code can be transmitted in various ways, including sound or light signals.
  • It was widely used in early radio communication before the advent of voice transmission.

While no longer used as the primary means of communication, Morse code remains popular among amateur radio operators and is still used in some specialized fields.
